Job location: Bergen op Zoom, Netherlands

As the Fermentation Technology Manager you will have the opportunity to work with a world leader in large-scale fermentation at Cargill’s 5 ethanol facilities in Europe. This unique role offers exciting career development and leadership potential in Cargill’s growing fermentation businesses. al.

Major Tasks:

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of fermentation processes by developing and implementing novel technology. Act as liaison between the production and research group, and have a strong voice in setting research group objectives in line with cost reduction, productivity, and yield improvements.

  • Monitor fermentation processes to assure consistency and sustainability. Partner with other fermentation staff in the development of protocols and best practice guidelines as well as the development of strategies to minimize process problems.

  • Interact with global fermentation team on optimization, development, and start-up of new processes for new and existing product lines.

  • Provide timely communication to key stakeholders (operations, business leadership, technology, and engineering) on commercial performance and technology efforts.

  • Active participation and leadership in safety, environmental, food safety and regulatory compliance. Administration including reporting, training, engagement, and budgeting.

  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as required.


Minimum Required Qualifications

  • M.S. in biochemical engineering, chemical engineering, bioscience engineering, microbiology, or related field

  • 3 years relevant industrial experience

  • Ability to effectively communicate (written, verbal, presentation skills) at multiple levels within a corporate environment and with customer organizations

  • Self-motivated with ability to effectively manage change

  • Experience with data management and statistical tools

  • Mechanical aptitude

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Desire to work in an operations environment

  • Demonstrated awareness of safety

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in biochemical engineering, chemical engineering, microbiology, or related field

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training

  • Experience in staff supervision

  • Experience in maintaining pure culture systems

  • Experience in microbial physiology and microbial genetics

  • Industrial scale project experience with process optimization focus
