Description

This position will partner with customers to manage their transportation needs by acting as a liaison between shipper and carrier. The ideal candidate will be a service oriented professional that can thrive in a fast paced environment. This position will book orders with customers, line up carriers for the loads, while meeting scheduled pickups and deliveries. Facilitation of the information and documentation exchange between carrier and customer is critical. This position will be responsible for maintaining accurate logs/information/data to keep the customers and carriers informed on status of shipment. The best candidates for this position will: 1) be able to problem solve in a quick and efficient manner as issues or problems arise; 2) participate in business development and building and securing accounts; 3) possess negotiation skills and understand the supply and demand of equipment in the geographical area; 4) be able to develop a general knowledge of the produce industry and commodities.

Principal Accountabilities

50%SHIPMENT EXECUTION (COMPLIANCE & PROCESS)

  • Transport capacity planning, control of external warehousing capacity

  • Executes against freight strategy, develops resolutions to critical issues and broad design matters, and provides recommendations to support improved or cost-beneficial freight movements.

  • Arranges the transportation between the plant and destination. Manages carrier selection, pools loads and tenders loads to carrier companies on a proactive basis, who then relay the information to an appropriate driver operator.

  • Reviews carrier execution and service to carriers across businesses, and primarily contributes to the development of improved concepts and techniques in partnership with mode teams to improve operating activities.

  • Manages changes and solves difficult problems by independently making decisions on how best to manage carrier and customer relationships to optimize risks, costs, time, etc.

30%DATA MANAGEMENT/ANALYSIS & REPORTING

  • Independently conducts data analysis across multiple data sources, and resolves complex data issues between systems & spreadsheets. Analyzes and collects implications on carrier performance data to optimize/maximize shipment efficiencies, and provides recommendations for improvement.

  • Independently creates complex reports that produce planning specifications. Uses reports to perform comprehensive reconciliations of sales orders and searches for methods to prevent future discrepancies.

  • Collects and registers all documents into the system (e.g. invoices, customer data, sales orders/contracts, transport rates, etc.). Using deep knowledge of regulatory and industry standards, reviews the most complex documents for complete accuracy and provides feedback and recommendations for improvement to internal clients and external customers.

  • Updates and maintains customer and vendor information, customer orders, and payment data in a system or worksheet. Tracks unique customer transport data (e.g. demurrage & despatch worksheets), and uses data to determine opportunities for improved alignment between customer service and operations, and improved service to customers.

  • Updates and monitors transportation expenses (e.g. rate quotes), accrues costs and enters activities into data system to generate reports and cost estimates. Uses data to conduct specialized analysis and provide assistance and recommendations to accounting personnel regarding payment of funds to carriers and collection of funds from customers.

20%CLIENT INTERACTION & BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP

  • Provides timely communication with carrier owners and operators, terminals, charters, transport crew and government entities, and maintain daily operational contact with customers and carriers on order/shipment information.

  • Maximizes efficiencies and effectiveness by leveraging relationships with other colleagues and/offices, and provides timely information to proper parties such as: sales, customer service, merchandising, operations, management and material handling providers to assist with order/shipment changes in making the best buy/sell decisions to minimize costs and maximize profits and services.

  • Develops and maintains vendor relationships to obtain services at preferential pricing and service levels.

  • Develops and maintains customer relationships to obtain freight at preferential pricing levels.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years demonstrated experience in transportation, logistics or supply chain

  • Strong organizational, analytical and accuracy skills

  • Excellent communication and conflict management skills required

  • Good decision-making; ability to prioritize goals and work

  • Demonstrated in using Microsoft Office tools.

  • Demonstrated high level of experience with Microsoft Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree

  • Experience with LTL

  • Customer and/or Carrier contacts
