As the Project Planner Training, reporting to the Capital Projects Supervisor, you will be accountable to support the planning and coordination of engineering projects and programs designed to improve plant operating efficiency, maintain assets, ensure regulatory compliance, improve food safety, and employee health and safety. You will also be responsible for developing and managing all personnel and tasks involved in project management from project development to start-up including construction and commissioning activities. This position supports the development of project scope, schedule, budget, operating financials (including commitment preparation), staffing plan, and project execution plan including participation of multifunctional teams as applicable to each project.

Principal Accountabilities:

40% Project Planning & Implementation - Define and be accountable for project objectives and facilitates interaction with project sponsor and stakeholders to ensure alignment of project objectives; define viable alternatives to meet project objectives; develops capital budget, schedule, scope, operating costs, resource needs and benefits for each option; perform financial analysis on each viable option and selects best option; write commitment and charter for funding approval if appropriate; fully utilize Project Management Guidelines, PDP, Build, and PPM processes as needed to properly execute project; generate project reports as needed to track costs and schedule

20% Research and Development - Design equipment layouts and drafts complete working drawings for fabrication; present design for approval to management

40% Architectural / Mechanical Drafting - Draft and update all facility drawing files using AutoCAD.



  • Minimum 1-2 years in project engineering and/or operations supervision. Experience outside of project engineering is a plus such as operations, PDG, and maintenance.

  • Working knowledge of food safety and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to execute small to large projects (nominally $50 K or more) or to manage a portfolio of projects ($1MM or more) successfully.

  • Experience/Knowledge of PPM, PDP, and Build processes for full rigor projects. Facilitation of Project Workshops is a plus.

  • Demonstrated project controls skills for budget management and schedule development and execution.

  • Knowledge of project estimating techniques.

  • Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada
