RMG is an integrated organisation made up of three teams: Enterprise Risk, Risk Measurements CoE and Risk Operations and Execution (RO&E).

The RO&E team is a centralized team that creates cohesion throughout RMG through their ownership of end to end transaction flows as they pertain to derivatives and market risk management. Specifically derivatives execution, clearing and related external relationships; derivatives middle office operations for all Cargill enterprises; deployment of technology and digitalization and management of special projects.

The RO&E Data Scientist will lead the data, analytics, digitalization and technology requirements and implementation for RMG. This position will use their analytical, programming and technical capabilities to extract meaningful insights from data and collaborate with RMG subject matter experts and Global I.T. to build technology to support this. Emerging data and technology trends (e.g. machine learning, deep learning and text analytics) are an important aspect of this role through experiments using pilots and prototypes followed by wider deployment where successful.

The focus of this role is on both tactical and strategic solutions required for the RMG strategy. A key component of the RO&E and therefore this position is the end to end data management, business intelligence processes and reporting capabilities surrounding the technology as well as the business readiness of the Cargill Enterprises to integrate and align with these solutions as they progress with their own data and technology journeys.

This position requires creative curiosity coupled with a team approach to achieve ways of translating high-technology ideas into new ways to impact the bottom line. In addition, the partnership between this position and the RO&E Project Manager role will be critical for successful technology implementation.

Practical business knowledge in the areas of market risk management and/or derivatives are strongly preferred but are not a minimum requirement.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Uses analytical, programming and technical capabilities to extract meaningful insights from data

  • Works with a variety of programming languages, including R, Python, SQL, noSQL and Tableau

  • Manages and transforms data from various sources to achieve objectives

  • Communicates and collaborates with Risk Management Group subject matter experts, Global I.T. and other stakeholders to build analytical models and technology, and integrates data mining results with existing systems

  • Monitors data mining system performance and implements efficiency improvements

  • Builds data visualisations to communicate output to stakeholders

  • Develops and plans required analytics projects in response to business needs

  • Leads data, technology and digitalization business case, requirements and implementation for Risk Management Group Strategy

  • Supports end to end data management, business intelligence processes and reporting capabilities

  • Responsible for data and technology roadmaps, enhancements and upgrades

  • Oversees day to day data and technology operations ensuring sound procedures and support including systematic tracking of data and metrics

  • Incorporates new analytical techniques e.g. machine learning, deep learning and text analytics through experiments using pilots and prototypes followed by wider deployment where successful

  • Drives continuous improvement in risk management group solutions

  • Defines and delivers business cases and gains stakeholder approval and engagement

  • Motivates, coaches and manages teams to achieve objectives

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in an analytical subject; Information systems, programming, mathematics, statistics, physics, risk management, financial modelling or equivalent

  • Proven experience in programming, data management and technology experience in a relevant industry covering business and I.T.

  • Strong knowledge of fundamental statistics or advance mathematics – preferred

  • Programming and coding skills that include, R, Python, SQL, NoSQL and Tableau

  • Additional programming skills in Java and Scala - preferred

  • System processing experience such as Hadoop and Spark

  • Experience in complex trading environments with a focus on derivatives, physically traded commodities and or risk management – preferred but not essential

  • Creative curiosity coupled with a team approach resulting in a proven track record in translating analytical ideas into new ways to impact the bottom line.

  • Experience in end to end data management, business intelligence processes and reporting capabilities

  • Strong individual initiative and drive with the ability to effectively communicate and deliver business cases and gain stakeholder approval and engagement

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, plan project work and consistently deliver to a high standard

  • Highly effectively verbal and written communication skills to deliver business cases and data visualisations to gain stakeholder approval and engagement

  • Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technology

  • Strong conceptual, strategic thinking, problem solving, technical and analytical skills

  • Good experience in motivating, coaching and managing teams

  • Global travel will be required, up to 20%

  • Strong knowledge of fundamental statistics or advanced mathematics -Preferred

  • Additional programming skills such as Java and Scala - Preferred

  • System processing experience such as Hadoop and Spark -Preferred

  • Ability to operate in a complex trading environment - Preferred

  • Practical experience in derivatives and/or market risk management -Preferred
