The Cargill Starches, Sweeteners & Texturizers North America AEI Regional Project Engineer is primarily responsible for leading automation, electrical, and instrumentation projects within the region. This position will oversee the overall implementation of projects, including setting the strategy for prioritization of projects, schedule, cost estimating, and projections for project implementation. The AEI Regional Project Engineer ensures consistency of design, quality control of project installations, and communicates objectives and implementation strategies through multiple levels of the organization. This position’s initial focus will primarily be on completing the Renaissance Program. The Renaissance Program consists of a series of projects to upgrade obsolete control system technology at 4 production facilities, which includes installation of new automation networks, hardware, control wiring, software, and software programming for a variety of operations at the facilities.
The AEI Regional Engineer will directly supervise and coach individual project managers and technical experts.
35%Set strategy and execution plans for AEI regional projects including cost projections, schedule projections, staffing / resource plans, scope control, and evaluation / incorporation of new technologies as they become available.
30%Manage budgeting, cost control, project scope, schedule control, PDP process, workshops, and gate reviews for regional projects.
15%Interface with hardware and software design teams and provide input / approval for designs.
10%Manage the overall relationship with key partners in hardware / software supply, project engineering, and programming.
5%Attend project cut-overs and apply learnings to future implementations.
5%Interface with the local AEI teams and AEI MTL groups to sustain the governing standards and drive continuous improvement of AEI standards.
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or 5 years of experience in automation projects
Demonstrated experience in managing projects where Distributed Control System (DCS)/DeltaV hardware and software were installed
Demonstrated experience of managing multiple, concurrent projects / priorities
Strong communication skills and demonstrated experience in affecting and managing major change within an operations team
Demonstrated strong learning capacity
Knowledge of project scheduling techniques
Working knowledge of food safety and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) requirements
Experience with industry standards for automation and electrical design and installation
Demonstrated high levels of organization, communication and documentation skills
Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach and delegate
Demonstrated ability to work with multifunctional teams and personnel

5 years of project management experience or 5 years of managing an automation department
Experience with DeltaV hardware and software programming
Experience with process design or management of a production line or department
Strong skills in budgeting, reporting, and tracking / analysis of key performance indicators and schedule for projects
Strong skills in developing bid packages, managing contractor personnel, and leading construction efforts
Ability to lead a cross-functional team and effectively delegate project tasks
Experience outside of project engineering is a plus such as operations, MTL, and maintenance
Cargill’s Construction Project Management course, food safety training, Build academy completion or relevant previous project experience
Familiarization with Provox, Modicon, Siemens, RS3, Control Logix, APACS and other control system technologies
Demonstrated ability to execute large projects (nominally $5MM or more) or to manage a portfolio of projects ($2MM or more) successfully
Experience/Knowledge of PPM, PDP, and Build processes for full rigor projects. Facilitation of Project Workshops is a plus
Demonstrated project controls skills for budget management and schedule development and execution
Working knowledge of Project Scheduling Software
Knowledge of project estimating techniques
Basic competencies in food safety, Automation, Electrical & Instrumentation (AE&I), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), American Society Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B31.3 piping design, American Petroleum Institute (API) 650 tank construction, Management of Change (MOC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and National Electric Code (NEC)
