Position Purpose

The issues and trends analyst is responsible for aggregating and analyzing information from multiple sources in order to prepare for and address emerging issues and trends. The issues and trends analyst will:

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of a Corporate Affairs (CA) emerging issues/trends system.

  • Work with CA colleagues, including the social/digital team, to identify and fill the issues pipeline by aggregating insights, information, data drawn from a range of sources—including FiscalNote, CA external stakeholder engagement, industry communications, and digital media.

  • Develop scanning capabilities and resources to support Cargill’s companywide forward-looking culture.

  • Monitor signposts identified from issues mapping and futuring processes (e.g. scenario planning).

  • Provide trend analysis and insights to support the CA “futuring team.”

  • Work with other CA colleagues, including the Issues Management Manager and the Digital Trends and Analytics team, to capture and visualize emerging and current issues in dashboard and trend reports.

  • Work to uncover internal Cargill knowledge that can be used to further issue and trend monitoring and analysis efforts.

Principal Accountabilities

  • 50% Scanning, monitoring and analysis of emerging issues and trends

  • 20% Trend reports and visualization

  • 20% Provides inputs/support to policy and issues/futuring teams

  • 10% Scanning capacity building, development and education of tools/methods

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy or a related discipline, preferably with a focus on competitive intelligence or futures studies

  • 2 or more years of professional work experience

Successful Attributes

  • Exposure to scenario planning or competitive intelligence planning preferred

  • Ability to analyze and interpret broad, societal factors affecting Cargill (eg, STEEP Analysis)

  • Demonstrated track-record in process-oriented project management

  • Strong collaboration skills and cross-practice/functional team player

  • Curious and passion to learn

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively

  • Ability to travel on occasion
