The FSQR Superintendent will be responsible for the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System and product specifications at the Nebraska City, NE facility. The Quality Management system is in place to ensure all product produced at the facility meets customer specifications and regulatory requirements 100% of the time. The FSQR Superintendent will directly supervise FSQR Supervisors and indirectly supervise FSQR technicans. Additionally, this position will act as the primary contact for customer inquiries, complaints and specification audits and reviews. This position may require up to 3-4 weeks of travel per year.
25% Ensure the facility Quality Management System is effectively controlling critical quality control points to ensure adherence to customer specifications and regulatory requirements. Reassess the program as needed in response to changing customer requirements, regulations, internal quality failures, and customer complaints. Work closely with other cooked meats facilities to ensure consistency between plants’ Quality Mangement Systems. Ensure all related procedures, SOPs, and paperwork are reviewed annually. Ensure all monitors are properly trained and performing quality checks correctly.
25% Responsible for the training, development, goal setting, and performance reviews for FSQR Supervisors, and indirectly for the FSQR technicians. Ensure all of their required tasks are completed as scheduled.
25% Ensure product specifications are accurate and up to date. Complete regular specification audits to ensure they are being adhered to by operations and to identify errors and/or unclear wording in them. Initiate MOCs to correct deficiencies in specifications. Work with R&D, product management, and customers to improve upon finished product requirements in the specifications. Participate in weekly new product / product improvement calls with product management and R&D and aid in setting up specifications for new products.
10% Lead internal quality incident investigations and customer complaint investigations utilizing root cause analysis tools. Participate in facility downgrade team and Kaizen/RCA events aimed at preventing or reducing recurrence of product quality failures.
10% Work closely with corporate customer service department, sales, and product management when responding to customer inquiries and complaints, which must be responded to in a timely manner. Work closely with raw meat procurement and FSQR Supplier/External Manufacturer department to ensure supplier complaints are filed and appropriately responded to. Track and trend customer, consumer, and supplier complaints for the facility food safety team.
5% Support FSQR department during customer visits and third party, customer, and corporate audits. Participate in food safety team meetings. Fill in for FSQR Manager as needed. Potential to become Cargill internal auditor.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in scientific or technical field (microbiology, biology, chemistry, food science, animal science, etc.)
3 years’ or more experience in food manufacturing plant FSQR/quality assurance, plant operations, R&D, or specs and labeling
Technical knowledge in the areas of food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs
Good written and verbal communication skills
Excellent computer skills (proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook a must)
Strong work ethic, drive, and initiative
Good organizational and analytical problem solving skills
Leadership skills – able to lead, train, and engage FSQR superivisors and technicians
5 years or more experience directly supervising or managing people
Experience with fully cooked deli and sliced meat production, technical competency in meat science
Experience with Qualtrax, Pi, HELIX, SAP, PFS, and/or Lotus Notes (specification system).
Lean Six Sigma or other statistical process improvement and root cause analysis skills
Food safety auditor training or experience
