Position Purpose

Engineering R&D (EngRD) is a global group that develops innovative process technologies, and that works with existing Cargill and customer facilities to improve their economic and environmental performance. It provides Cargill businesses and customers with novel products and services, distinctive value and growth opportunities. EngRD supports activities across the full breadth of Cargill, from new-to-the-world food ingredients, through improving the performance of our current manufacturing assets, and applying our applied mathematics & data science capabilities to business and supply chain opportunities.

The incumbent of this position will lead in developing technical solutions by combining process analytical chemistry, process control strategy, including model-based control, and automation in our global Engineering R&D team. Responsibilities include portfolio development, project planning and execution, and client & customer relationships. The ability to provide thought leadership in the area of advanced process control and automation, particularly as related to helping define the business case, technical approach, and then supporting and sustaining the deployed solution. Incumbent should be able to communicate the value of these investments within Cargill, including up to Senior Plant Operations Leaders.

Principal Accountabilities

40%Deploy advanced process control and automation projects that improve the efficiency of our manufacturing facilities.Bring new insights to manufacturing teams on improved process analytical instrumentation or process control strategies to meet their goals. Develop standard process control solutions that can be leveraged quickly out to multiple facilities across the world. Collaborate with R&D process development teams to bring best-in-class process control and automation to our processes that produce new, innovative products.

20%Develop portfolio of projects that brings our manufacturing facilities to a common best practice standard for automation and control and to pilot new technologies that will take Cargill to best-in-class performance.

20%Continuously seek out industry best practice and skills development to create new capabilities for advanced process control and automation at Cargill to improve manufacturing efficiencies.

20%Provide thought leadership, mentoring and coaching to R&D and Operations team members to improve their skills and capabilities.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

  • At least 10 years of experience in manufacturing, capital projects, or R&D environment

  • At least 5 years of experience with increasing responsibilities in process control & automation

  • Advanced control experience in loop tuning, configuration, and regulatory controls

  • Experience deploying model-based control

  • Ability to handle significant complexity.

  • Experience in developing a portfolio of projects that demonstrates the value of process control and automation

  • Must be self motivated and driven

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to address stakeholders

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in Engineering, or related field.

  • More than 15 years of total experience

  • Green belt or black belt

  • Experience working in multiple facilities to achieve value through process control & automation

  • Experience inprocess modeling and optimization and operator training

  • Experience in food, chemicals or pharmaceutical businesses.
