Job location: Schiphol (10% travel globally)
Cargill is the world leading supplier of high quality cocoa powder. Cargill’s cocoa powder is marketed under the Gerkens brand, it is produced at 6 sites (2 in Europe, 2 in Africa, 1 in Asia, 1 in LatAm) and it is delivered to customers all around the world, serving various categories of applications (beverages, bakery, confectionery, etc.).
The Product Line Manager Cocoa Powder is accountable for the longer term portfolio positioning and profitability of Cargill’s powder product line. He/She is seen as the most knowledgeable person on the Gerkens portfolio at Group level. The PLM Powder is accountable for optimal capacity utilization and margin capture for the Group powder producing assets, and directly for the assets located in the EMEA region. He/She provides price targets to Group Sales teams including differentiation per customer category /region (strategic pricing) and contributes inputs to the Group Sales and Marketing strategies. He/She works across departments to ensure alignment towards the product line strategy.
The individual occupying this position has an analytical mind and strong business sense, as well as the thought leadership and communication skills needed to retain and enhance Cargill’s leading position in the cocoa powder industry worldwide.
Product Line Positioning (30%)
Set the product line 5-year strategy (product line aspirations, where-to-play, how-to-win, critical capabilities). Lead the process by engaging / collecting input from various departments. Create a compelling vision;
co-own the Product Line Architecture (with Marketing). Lead the process of information gathering and analysis to fully comprehend customer needs (jobs to be done), technology available and competitor’s product offerings. Translate to a coherent innovation pipeline and strategic portfolio positioning. Provide input to business cases on innovation / investment related to cocoa powder. Co-guide TSS (with Sales);
guide/train Sales to be effective ambassadors of the Gerkens brand. Interact with customers on ad-hoc basis to strengthen Gerkens’ brand credibility and bring expert knowledge.
Margin Management (40%)
Strategic Pricing: Optimize profitability of the Product Line. Decision maker on pricing strategies and discussions on pricing with Sales;
margin and volume targets: Set volume objectives for product portfolio based on capacity constraints. Set price targets in line with Group budget and analysis of value chain profitability. Manage capacity vs. sales vs. budget over the year and take active leadership to achieve this; responsible for coordination with operations and supply chain;
risk management: Cooperate with Butter PLM to facilitate products game plan execution.
Capacity Management (20%)
- Production and Assets: Support development and implementation of LT asset strategy and owner of the commitment request. Lead in optimizing the product portfolio per plant from a capacity/margin perspective. Accountable for iBP Supply Plan input, to accommodate Demand Plan given capacity constraints and margin targets. Drive the budget process.
Project Management, change management (10%)
- Change leadership in Regional/Group strategy roll out and participate / lead critical projects.
D2Day decision making taking into account multiple factors that change on a daily basis. Decision making has direct P&L impact;
getting the information, analysing and organization of workload. Continuous prioritization: Urgent vs. Important/strategic tasks.
University Degree / MBA
Minimum of 10 years of merchandising position, sales or marketing
Minimum of 5 years in senior level position
Communication & presentation
Connect with plants operations, eg. spend 1 day a week at the plant (in NL)
B2B brand awareness and affinity
Knowledge of food ingredients merchandising / sales
Experience in planning, budgeting, and developing business strategy.
