One of the key strategic initiatives of CSST China is to build a top trading and risk management desk in China’s corn industry.
The liquidity in China’s futures markets provide opportunities for the trading team to create optimal value with a combination of physical trading. This role, as part of the trading desk, has accountability over short term directional value creation (Pnl responsibility for short term trading) within both physical hedges and futures, while also responsible for driving insights throughout the physical business for our wider business operational book.
Business position management --- 40%
-Manages and monitors compilling and reporting of the overall business positions and exposures and ensure the evaluation of risk/rewards
-Develop physical knowledge of commodity (i.e. primarily corn and corn starches, but also sugar, tapioca starches, co-products related and coal) as well as shipping, logistics, quality, warehousing, contract terms and operations.
-Monitors/controls the business risk positions by analyzing and communicating SnD forecasts and market movements accurately; Ensure the commodity risk align with pricing and business game plan in each region
-Develop operational pipeline management skills through close interaction with internal stakeholders, including different functions and location teams
understanding of execution risks in the physical book.
Manages team’s daily P&L calculations, both realized and unrealized.
Works with the accounting and finance departments for reporting and compliance
Provide trading subject matter insight and perspective on strategic commercial opportunities
Trades and hedges within limits and achieve annual trading PnL budget set by the Risk Manager---40%
-Collaborates with merchandizing and the analytics on a daily basis to ensure outputs meet trading needs.
-Develops weekly independent game plans and contributes actively to the business overall operational game plan (GP). Have courage/confidence to call a market, amidst volatility.
-Actively participates in raw material sourcing and purchasing discussions for different plants/locations so as to optimize the cash book and maximize earnings.
-Partners with customer team to determine structured pricing, risk management solutions for customers
-Futures, options, spreads/ basis trading, positioning
Providing value-added services to selected customers and work closely with Commercial team in pricing discussions and analysis
Interacting with the key market players, industry experts, hedge fund community. And over time, building up a strong network with internal and external stakeholders
Any other duties as identified, including but not limited to managing the execution
Essential Position Requirements:
Excellent quantitative and analytical facility with commercial acumen to provide solutions to business challenges
Demonstrated strong interest of Ag commodity and overall business operations
A self-learner with down-to-earth and open-minded working attitude; Can deal with ambiguity, and have passion to figure things out in a positive way
-Attention to details and the accuracy of managing the flow of orders is essential. Able to act calmly and efficiently in times of pressure is also essential.
Education, Experience, Skills:
- Bachelor/Masters degree with discipline in Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics/Statistics and Agriculture with no more than 2 years work experience.
-At least 2-3 yrs trading experience trading physical and/or derviatives. Experience in Ag industry would be an advantage.
-A risk or analytical background with market analysis and trading concepts, is an advantage.
-Strong risk taking appetite and being able to spot trading / arbitrage opportunities
Advanced Excel and ppt skills
Strong communication skills in English and Mandarin - written, oral, and spoken; Excellent presentation skills
Technical analysis, indepth knowledge of futures and options.
-Ability to achieve aggressive earnings growth in a challenging unsophisticated market
This is an important role, allowing the right candidate to display pipeline management skills. Additionally there are Pnl responsibilities which can lead to a wider risk taking role.
