Job Purpose/General Description

A mechanic performs a wide variety of maintenance work to maintain equipment and facilities. Skills acquired through advanced training and licenses may be used in performing this work. The position will be first shift (7:00am – 3:30pm) and required to be on a rotating on call schedule

Essential Duties

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical failures.

  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems.

  • Repair, rebuild, install and align product transfer equipment (pumps, augers, conveyors, etc.)

  • Cut, grind, and weld materials as needed.

  • Safely rig equipment.

  • Complete preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.

  • Able to perform precision maintenance techniques (alignment, shaft tolerances, etc) and machinery alignment procedures.

  • Provide hands on information and support Root Cause Analysis processed to strive for reliability improvement.

  • Document completed work, equipment findings, and parts information as required.

  • Maintain personal tools and shop areas in a neat and clean condition.

  • Must obtain forklift license, and use pallet handling equipment to move equipment and materials as needed.

  • A high degree of mechanical competence supported by completion of a recognized apprenticeship, a degree from a relevant technical college or trade association, a Certificate of Qualification, and/or equivalent work experience

  • Ability to read and communicate effectively is required. Must be able to interpret work instructions, formulate plans, and express ideas and concerns effectively to co-workers, maintenance personnel and supervisors. Log all incidents and actions taken in a clear and concise method. Ability to read and write at a grade 12 level preferred

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide 4 digit numbers. Ability to perform these operations using units of weight (pounds, kilograms), percentages, or fractions. Grade 12 mathematics proficiency preferred.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out multiple step instructions. Ability to remember and prioritize multiple job tasks. Must be able to work with minimal supervision

  • Employee is required to stand and reach with arms and hands, as a regular occurrence. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is regularly required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently and consistently be required to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception

Preferred :

  • Operate heavy equipment

  • Forklift certification

  • High school degree

  • Ability to use a computer

  • One year experience in production or plant environment
