The purpose of the QA Laboratory Supervisor position is to provide high level technical expertise in the person’s field of responsibility. This person is a recognized expert in their field and typically leads efforts in such fields as microbiology, and laboratory instrumentation. The role will have broad impact across multiple facilities, product lines or business units (BU). The position must be knowledgeable of available resources within and outside of Cargill and be able to work independently with minimal direction. The position must be able to handle projects that may involve new products or process that require development of systems, programs, testing, specifications or implementation of new regulations. This position must be able to effectively collaborate and influence managers, Research and Development (R&D), customers or supplier/external manufacturers.
50%Ensure compliance to Cargill Food Safety and Quality Regulatory policies and procedures. Assist the QA Manager in the development and implementation of new food and feed safety, animal welfare, and quality plant policies and procedures across the BU, food safety and quality audit, proficiency and competency testing, instrumentation, specific product line knowledge, computer system (data management). Analyze, develop and implement system improvements/ best practice initiatives both locally and at the enterprise level. High level of collaboration with peers and technical contacts across the organization.
35%In-depth supervision of Quality assurance systems (GMP, GHP, HACCP, FSMS, SSOPs,GLP, VDR program, quality system,
instrumentation, computer system, etc.); providing support for operations and other functional areas, where needed. Supervision of laboratory
analyses on foods, feeds, water, environmental samples and inspection and verification activities of the plant, suppliers or external
manufacturing facilities and other needed focus areas. Customer/supplier/co-manufacturer interaction,presentations, response to audits and
issues, enterprise and local execution of best practice initiatives. This position may be called on for their expertise in helping other locations
resolve problems, develop systems or handle customer or supplier situations. Lead or supervise enterprise projects in their area of
expertise/and or interface with customers and suppliers. Provide technical assistance to managers, specialists, and customers.
20%Assist with customer and internal food and feed safety education and understanding. Work with suppliers, external manufacturers and distribution centers to ensure Cargill requirements and product specifications are in compliance.Train and develop managers, specialists, chemists, and customers. Drive continuous improvement in the areas of QA lab ,process and plant design, and customer focus.
20%Any other duties as assigned. (i.e. lab supervision, negotiation of raw material or instrument purchases, leadership of functional or PDG teams, resolution of significant customer complaints, issues, and problems). Works with industry organizations to set strategic direction, solve problems and deploy programs.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a science field.
Minimum 10 years of experience as a Specialist or Supervisor in quality and food safety system
Demonstrated technical and leadership skills.
Demonstrated project supervision skills.
Demonstrated organization skills.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to adapt and learn in a changing work environment.
Ability to supervise multiple priorities.
Ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups of people with varying levels of education.

Able to travel when needed and work nights, weekends when necessary
Capable to provide leadership/motivation to engage employees in the business
Change management skills; ability to identify the need for and affect change across multiple businesses. Ability to communicate effectively and lead functional managers in making appropriate food safety/quality decisions
Working knowledge of quality systems supervision (like TQM or Six Sigma)
Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office Software (MS Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel).
Degree in Microbiology or Food science
Demonstrated ability to manage complex problems or system development.
Demonstrated leadership and process control management skills and an ability to develop team members
Understanding of statistical process control programs
Experience dealing with customers or suppliers.
Experience mentoring people
Knowledge of multiple areas of quality and food safety
