Cargill’s Agricultural Supply Chain – North America (CASC NA) connects agricultural producers to food, feed and industrial customers through a seamless supply chain. We help our customers compete in the global market and efficiently deliver products from origins to destinations through our marketing, sourcing, originating, storing, trading, consulting and processing of grain, oilseeds and crop inputs products and solutions. CASC NA business reaches across Canada, United States & Mexico with an expansive asset footprint including over 200 grain elevators, export/import facilities, oilseed crush plants, biodiesel facilities, and farm service centers.

Position Purpose:

The Grain Associate is a training program designed to help prepare you for either a Grain Representative or Grain Marketing Advisor position with CASC NA. Upon successful completion of this program you will have the knowledge and skills necessary to manage your own grain sales or consulting territory. Typically a Grain Associate will be assigned a territory within 6-12 months. Grain Representatives and Grain Marketing Advisors manage long term business relationships with farm customers. They have a passion for identifying grain marketing opportunities and delivering Cargill’s grain marketing solutions that help our farm customers make better grain marketing decisions.

Training:

Working closely with your Sales Leader and your location Sales and Grain Marketing Consulting teams, you will participate in extensive training which focuses on grain marketing, the sales process and buying grain from farm customers. Training involves online grain training modules, classroom workshops, peer learning activities and on the job training. This training gives exposure to Cargill’s grain business from farm customer to end-use customer. Primary focuses are on the skills and knowledge required to help our farm customers make good grain marketing decisions with Cargill including: how to analyze individual farm factors that affect producer’s profitability, how to interpret and understand the factors that affect market direction and how to apply the proper risk management tool that match the producer’s needs.

Accountabilities:

50% Developing a skill set to be able to work with customers to build productive, long-term business relationships, learn about their business, identify opportunities to help them succeed, sell grain and grain marketing solutions, and manage the account to the benefit of the customer and Cargill.

20% Work with the consulting team to increase grain marketing skills as well as understand the service Cargill delivers to customers.

20% Support administrative and operations staff as they pursue their specific goals. During critical times of the year you may assist with operational tasks to ensure superior customer service.

10% Work with customer database and account information and identify sales opportunities, develop territory plans and contribute to FSG sales plan.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to relocate to various locations after the training period is complete

  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and make decisions independently

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, with ability to influence decision-making

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience

  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage time and set priorities

  • A valid Canadian driver's license and clean driving record

  • Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada

Preferred:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree or diploma from an accredited program with a major in Agricultural Business, Ag Econ, Ag Management or similar agricultural discipline graduating between December 2016 and August 2017

  • Experience using customer relationship management (CRM) software

  • Ability to identify opportunities and prospects to build customer relationships

  • Customer facing sales experience
