Location: E MEAR region – close to any major international airport.
This role is responsible for applying broad and in-depth knowledge of Environment, Health and Safety practices and standards across the CAN MEA region. Provides leadership and direction in the following areas of focus: development and implementation of EHS strategy, maintenance and continuous improvement of EHS results, shaping of the internal EHS culture, management of the external EHS brand and leadership of talent management practices.
Key member of the CAN MEA BOSC Leadership Team.
20% DEVELOP EHS STRATEGY
Assesses EHS risks and opportunities for the region, using broad and in-depth knowledge of Environment, Health and Safety issues (including current and medium-term future regulatory requirements) and potential impacts, stakeholder (customer, community, interest groups, employees) priorities, and Group/Enterprise strategy.
Contributes to the development of corporate EHS strategy and tactics to manage risk and generate value.
Leads the development of CAN MEA EHS strategy and tactics to manage Environment, Health and Safety risk and generate business value. Leads efforts to achieve internal approval for the EHS strategy of the region.
Uses broad and in-depth knowledge of Environment, Health and Safety matters, regioinal objectives and stakeholders, to assure that strategy and tactics can achieve compliance with legal requirements, position the region for cost effective compliance with anticipated regulation, address expectations of key stakeholders, and support innovation that can generate business value.
Leads efforts to ensure deep understanding of (relevant parts of) the approved EHS strategy from internal and external partners and stakeholders.
Internally, this may include communicating, educating and leading or contributing to collaboration with other functions.
Externally, this may include leading efforts to influence regulatory policy, educate, and negotiate key approvals or permits with regulating bodies, develop support among key stakeholders including community or activist groups, customers, unions, industry associations and the media community, and work with external consultants.
10% IMPLEMENT EHS STRATEGY
Leads development of programs and processes to execute corporate and regional EHS strategy in a manner appropriate to the technology, scope and maturity of the business.
Networks with internal and external organizations to identify best practices of others that can be applied effectively.
Collaborates with internal partners in the region to execute elements of EHS strategy in processes, programs, and work of others, to enable EHS and support partner goals (e.g., Performance Management Process, Project Delivery Process, MADJV work, Process Safety Management, and Reliability Excellence Process Improvement).
20% MAINTAIN AND CONTINUOUSLY IMPROVE EHS RESULTS
Utilizes broad and in-depth knowledge of Environment, Health and Safety practices to identify meaningful business/ industry specific measures, to be tracked in the region, in addition to enterprise measures.
Implements systems to achieve performance metrics are accurately measured and reported in accordance with corporate, enterprise and group EHS standards.
Provides strategic oversight to Environment, Health and Safety audit, inspection and risk assessment processes. Adopts auditing standards and expands as appropriate for the business.
Conducts audits, inspections and risk assessment at high risk locations or to develop talent.
Reviews and analyzes audit results to confirm that the corporate, business and government standards on EHS are met.
Identifies trends, isolates root causes and confirms that appropriate follow-up actions are being implemented.
Directly reports EHS performance results and advises on corresponding action to CAN MEA BOSC Leadership Team. Through existing systems, reports EHS performance results and corresponding actions to Corporate EHS Team.
Monitors and anticipates change in the external environment, including regulations, science, and stakeholder positioning. Assesses applicability to the region and revises strategy as appropriate.
20% SHAPE INTERNAL EHS CULTURE
Builds effective working relationships with key leaders across the region in order to obtain/sustain a strong EHS culture.
Leads development of internal communications strategy for key and differentiated audiences that builds and maintains awareness of Environment, Health and Safety values, strategies, and performance; shares best practices and key learnings.
Influences leaders across the region, to promote proactive workplace Environment, Health and Safety practices. Provides broad and in-depth technical, regulatory, behavioral and strategic knowledge and consultation that leaders require to build a strong EHS culture (leaders are not limited to the BOSC organization, but include SMT, sales, commercial etc).
Collaborates with internal experts to share best practices, identify leading approaches on Environment, Health and Safety topics and facilitate a culture of continuous improvement.
Develops, directs and oversees implementation of recognition programs to acknowledge positive behavior and celebrate successes on topics of Environment, Health and Safety.
10% MANAGE EHS BRAND
Plays a key leadership role in external EHS professional and relevant industry organizations.
Leads engagement on EHS topics with external stakeholders in relevant industries.
Equips Leadership members with the information and tools they need to accurately represent Cargill on EHS topics.
Guides CAN MEA leadership members on specific customer and community concerns related to EHS topics.
Provides leadership to meet and exceed the expectations, values and priorities of community, customers, consumers and NGO’s.
20% PEOPLE, RESOURCE & BUDGET MANAGEMENT
Leads efforts across the CAN MEA region to ensure that the EHS talent is in place to address immediate and medium-term needs of the business.
Develops a plan to address gaps in EHS talent and knowledge needs and prepares the business/region for the future.
Identifies development opportunities for current employees to strengthen Environment, Health and Safety expertise.
Leads recruitment and selection processes for locations.
Prepares and manages the EHS budget.
Provides strategic and tactical functional leadership and coaching
Accountable for performance management, talent development, succession planning and engagement for direct reports.
Consults with BOSC Leadership to develop job relevant Environment, Health and Safety KRAs for their leadership teams.
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to EHS, or equivalent work experience supported by specific trainings.
5 -10 years of direct Environmental, Industrial Hygeine, Occupational Health and/or Safety experience in a manufacturing environment.
Applied knowledge and working understanding of OSHA, regulatory compliance, experience with inspections, incident investigations, process safety, contractor safety, EHS training, hazard reviews and job safety analysis.
Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities and ensure that plans, guidance and advice is accurate, timely & effective. Ability to quickly gather & analyze facts & input from all stakeholders, provide clear guidance & build consensus on solutions & be able to customize for specific locations & unique circumstances.
Strong influencing and collaborative skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills .
Good computer skills : MS Office.
Fluent in English.
Environmental, Occupational Health & Hygiene and/or Safety recognized certifications (CIH, CSP, CHMM, REM, CPEA, QEP).
Technical experience in Feed / Food operations.
Language skills other than English : Arabic, French, Turkish.
International experience : proven ability to work with other cultures.
This role requires traveling across the MEA region, to production plants, farms and customers and governmental agencies.
The position will offer the opportunity to gain deep knowledge and understanding of EHS practices and procedures, gain deep knowledge of operations at Cargill / CAN, gain experience in setting up a professional EHS organization.
The role is open also to candidates outside the region.
