Position Purpose & Summary
The Vegetable Protein Manufacturing Technology Engineer is a strong technical leader responsible for utilizing and transforming technology into business advantage within Cargill located in Cedar Rapids West. Specific responsibilities of this position include:
Optimization of current operations in conjunction with the Operations and Manufacturing Excellence teams to generate incremental value
Support and enable the Process Safety Risk Management (PSRM) program
Enable new business opportunities through opportunity identification and technical feasibility analysis
Develop technical capabilities and technical knowledge at the facility
Sustain the base performance and ensure no regression in operations performance
This position will allow for a high degree of technical development within the Cargill Operations, both from a deep understanding and becoming a technical leader on the physical production process, as well as a full understanding of the cost drivers of the business and development of skills in statistically supporting decisions. In addition, this position will allow for development in generating results by leading through influence as opposed to driving change through a direct reporting structure.
35% Develop capabilities at the Facility:
Lead the process of documenting, transferring, and training employees on technical knowledge, including implementation of standards that govern operations of the facility. Provide coaching and mentorship from a technical perspective.
30% Optimize Current Operations:
Lead efforts in identifying value creation opportunities through implementation and use of continuous improvement tools and driving execution through specific initiatives routed through the value generation pipeline at the site. Lead the site in monitoring performance and identifying opportunities through analysis of key performance indicators, manufacturing cost reports, and stable operations activities to create year on year sustained value
20% Sustain the Base:
Provide support for the facility as needed in troubleshooting operations, including participation in Root Cause Analysis and 5 Why activities where technical support is needed. Lead efforts in auditing the operation against standards on a regular basis and monitor and lead execution on action items from Key Performance Indicator monitoring to insure peak performance.
10% Enable New Business Opportunities:
Provide technical leadership in identifying and developing scope and business case of projects to capture additional value through new products or services. This will include participation in the project justification and gate reviews, preliminary design activities, interaction with the capital effectiveness team in validating the detailed design, and providing technical oversight during installation and start-up activities.
5% Support and Enable Process Safety:
Provide technical leadership in the application of the Process Safety Risk Management (PSRM) program, including assembly of Process Safety Information, participation in Process Risk Assessments, identification of mitigating actions to close gaps identified in Risk Assessments, and providing technical leadership to the closure of gaps.
There will be relocation provided for the right candidate
- Bachelor (or Graduate) Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biosystems Engineering or other technical discipline that has a strong foundation in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, mass/material balance and process design
OR Bachelors (or Graduate) degree in a Technical Field and minimum 5 years industrial technical experience
Six Sigma Green Belt certification or willingness to complete certification by June 2019
Must be able to align, deploy, and execute initiatives within a workgroup
Must be able to integrate technical, operational, and engineering activities
Must be able to travel up to 15% of the time
Demonstrated experience with technologies such as Dry Material Processing, Extrusion, Packaging
Demonstrated experience with assessing process risk and implementation of safeguards
Strong experience in Six Sigma / Lean Manufacturing concepts, with training in Statistically Supported Decision Making and Data Analytics along with knowledge of advanced statistical software tools such as Minitab
Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and/or databases and competency in process modeling tools
Demonstrated experience in using process data to identify and execute on value generation opportunities
Basic competencies in food safety, Root Cause Analysis, Management of Change, and Process Risk Analysis
Demonstrated project management skills and ability to execute on capital projects or demonstrated ability in working as a key member of a project team
