Position Purpose

As a member of an enterprise-wide group of technical experts consisting of Manufacturing Technology engineers, chemists, and research scientists, with the goal of continuous improvement, the MT engineer provides leadership with a technical and engineering focus to MT priorities. This role also includes business case development for multiple projects across the area of expertise. This person should identify opportunities for technical performance enhancement with respect to Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and best practices at their location as well as development of KPIs and best practices as needed. Development, analysis, interpretation and utilization of data and information during project inception, and execution are important activities of this job. The MT engineer provides leadership, direction for the department, aligned with the achievement of the business plan. The person in this role is responsible for continuous improvement in their department. This position also includes the utilization of continuous improvement (CI) tools including statistical analysis, optimization, as well as facilitation of Kaizen events as needed. The MTE also provides leadership, coaching, and mentoring to others. It is expected that MT engineers achieve Black Belt certification in “5” years.

Principal Accountabilities

20% Identify opportunities and perform business case analysis and upfront engineering activities and business case development to address beset practice gaps.

5% Function as the local representative to the BU MT and be a liaison for peers and MT members at other locations.

30% Lead and/or support process improvement, R&D, new initiatives, trials, and implementation of concepts.

25% Asa department technical expert, identify ways to optimize and improve department performance and ensure knowledge is transferred not only locally but also throughout the business.

15% Understand key process measures including costs, chemical usage, energy, yields, and operational standards to ensure they meet standards and are optimized.

5% Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to others and any other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biosystems Engineering or other engineering discipline that has a strong foundation in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, mass/material balance and process design and a minimum of 3 years Engineering and/or operations supervision experience, OR Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Discipline and minimum 5 years industrial technical experience.

  • 1 years’ experience with chemical manufacturing

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate through written, verbal and presentations skills with multiple levels of Cargill and customer organizations.

  • Demonstrated ability to implement technical solutions and best practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence others and lead initiatives or projects.

  • Strong organization and time management skills.

  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years in PDG, project engineering, operations supervision, and/or reliability engineer.

  • 3 years chemical processing – with an emphasis on hydrochloric acid, caustic and bleach manufacturing

  • Understanding of basic Reliability concepts.

  • Experience with project management processes.

  • Demonstrated competencies in several of the key process unit operations of the department.

  • Competency in Process Modelling tools.

  • Basic competencies in food safety, Root Cause Analysis, and risk analysis.

  • Skilled in Kaizen leader training.

  • Demonstrated ability to make data-based decisions.

  • Competent in statistical data analysis.

  • Process safety management experience (as applicable to PDG area).
