Position Purpose & Summary

The Risk Management Group (RMG) plays a key role in supporting Cargill’s strategic objective to strengthen its trading and risk management capabilities.

RMG’s vision is to be a leader in market risk management by successfully delivering on the following capabilities:

The Risk Analyst will actively contribute to RMG’s success in delivering on these capabilities within the business they support. The Risk Analyst in conjunction with the Risk Manager will ensure that all significant market risks are properly identified, quantified and communicated to support RMG’s value preservation mandate. In addition, this role will endeavor to partner with the commercial leadership team of the business and other embedded functions to develop and effectively communicate meaningful insights on the risk profile at the business/enterprise levels.

This Risk Analyst Role will support the following platforms/business:

CASC with particular focus on WTG and EMEA

Principal Accountabilities

60% Support the Enterprise Risk Leader, Risk Managers and trading teams through the development and delivery of risk analysis and insights to enable and promote a risk-informed decision making mindset within the business. Specific areas of contribution include development and reporting of risk metrics, in depth analytics of risk exposures, trading performance, and scenario-based outcome analysis at the strategy, theme, and overall portfolio levels. Design, prepare and assess risk reports for the business and RMG leadership. Lead development of data retention and extraction tools.

Enable RMG to deliver on our value preservation mandate by ensuring that all market risk exposures are properly identified, modelled, quantified and communicated to enable the business to manage its risk profile within the governance scope it is expected to operate. From a risk quantification standpoint, the Risk Analyst will play a leading role in the design, implementation and validation of risk models, stress scenarios, and quantification techniques to appropriately capture market risk exposures generated by the business. This role will also be expected to deliver deep options analysis and scenario based outcome simulations for RMG and the trading team.

25% Support the Enterprise Risk Leader and Risk Managers in promoting the understanding and awareness of significant risk drivers within the business to key stakeholders which include business and commercial leaders and Cargill Corporate governance committee members (i.e. CRC and/or FRC). Build collaborative relationships with Risk Managers, traders and trading management to assist the business in proactively anticipating how changing positions and/or market inputs will impact the overall risk profile of the business. Independently assess market and hedging correlations and relationships and suggest changes to support the implementation effective hedging and risk mitigation strategies. Working with Risk Managers, provide quantitative and qualitative assessments of trade timing, sizing, and historical outcome assessments, to support a robust and effective performance improvement process within the business. Help design trading performance reviews and support risk managers in leading trading performance lookback.

15% Support the RMG Central Team by ensuring alignment and consistency with risk processes and quantitative methods along with performing regular back-testing to ensure risk metrics are aligned with probability expectations. Embrace a continuous improvement mindset through active participation in broader RMG led initiatives and proactively sharing best practices with the broader RMG team.


  • 5 plus years of market risk experience in a financial or commodity trading environment

  • Detail-focused, process-oriented and possess excellent data management and report development ability

  • Strong interest in commodity markets and commodity risk management

  • Proven ability to operate in a complex trading environment and manage conflicting demands

  • Have demonstrated the ability and desire to learn and apply new concepts and methods and a naturally inquisitive mind

  • Self-starter, unafraid to query, question, or challenge assumptions

  • Team-player with ability to influence.

  • Adaptable and well-rounded individual

  • Excellent Excel skills required, VBA experience included.

  • Python experience preferred

  • Excellent data management skill

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent report development ability
