Position Purpose

This position is responsible for the development, deployment and continuous improvement of environmental, safety and health management systems as directed by the business EHS Leader within a specified region/location. This position will be part of the Cargill Cocoa and Chocolate, North America (CCCNA) Operations team and will help to ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements and initiatives for all of CCCNA'’s business.

Principal Accountabilities

40% Leadership: Develop, implement and champion proactive environmental, health & safety management programs; drive awareness and accountability for environmental and safety performance and system through all levels of the organization; assure compliance with internal and external environmental, health and safety requirements, manage risk, and leverage opportunities. Lead work on EHS efforts, which include developing collaborative relationships with regulators, customers, communities, and employees. Senior Environment, Health & Safety Professional will serve as primary EHS resource for their region, but are expected to assume the lead role for the EHS discipline expertise that they bring to the team.

25% Continuous Improvement: Maintain awareness of developing environmental, health & safety issues; facilitate adoption of best practices through benchmarking internally and externally, developing website and using business communication tools innovatively. Plan, develop, track and conduct safety training sessions, inspections and audits. Coordinate the activities of local Safety Committee development, BBS (Behavioral Based Safety), supervisor training, peer-to-peer coaching and contractor safety management, environmental sustainability and energy management. Follow-up and assure completion of action items and gap closure.

15% Communication: Communicate effectively in the development and implementation of EHS programs. Influence business leaders to promote systems, performance and achievement of goals. Lead the efforts of creating an EHS culture. Communicate to all CCCNA team members in the region the goals, standards and metrics used to measure progress.

10% People Development: Develop environmental, health & safety leadership and awareness skills at all levels and roles of the organization within the region. Develop appropriate and effective environmental, health & safety training for hourly, supervisory, and management employees to enhance environmental, health & safety professionalism in CCCNA. Provide technical and regulatory compliance expertise and support. Develop strength in the region by mentoring, coaching and training EHS auditors, as well as providing their specific discipline expertise within the business.

10% Reporting and Measuring: Produce regular summary reports and analysis on environmental, health & safety activities, performance measurement and results for the region and CCCNA as directed by the business EHS Leader. Plan, prepare and present annual EHS plans, goals, objectives, reports and results for the region. Contribute to corporate environmental initiatives, work place health and safety goal setting and coordinating development and implementation of measures and communications. Prepare and organize environmental, health & safety files for regional, corporate and division audits.


Required Qualifications

  • •4 year accredited degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering,

  • Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene and/or Safety Engineering

  • •10 years of direct Environmental, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and/or Safety experience in a manufacturing environment

  • •Applied knowledge and working understanding of OSHA, regulatory compliance, experience with inspections, incident investigations, process safety, contractor safety, EHS training, hazard reviews and job safety analysis

  • • Direct EHS experience must include leading and influencing organizations

  • • Strong leadership, influencing and collaborative skills

  • • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • • Influencing skills

  • • Resilience, persistence, optimism (other key factors from Cargill leadership model)

  • • Computer literacy: Power Point, Word, Excel, and internet searching

  • • Knowledge of related EHS equipment

  • • Knowledge of safety, industry hygiene and environmental testing methods

  • • Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada

Preferred Qualifications

  • • Environmental, Occupational Health & Hygiene and/or Safety recognized certifications (CIH, CSP, CHMM, REM, CPEA, QEP)

  • • Experience in a leading a world-class environmental, health and safety organization

  • • Safety, Process & Risk Management, Environment, Energy, Sustainability & Natural Resources, Industrial Hygiene & Health experience

  • • International experience
