Position Overview

Cargill Risk Management seeks to hire a Senior Director for its Business Development team. Business Development team works with the leadership team to set strategic direction and prioritize growth initiatives. This role will explore new growth opportunities and expedite the commercialization of new products and services. We may incubate new businesses until they are either ready to be transitioned over to the commercial teams or spun off on their own, and this position may have the opportunity to lead that effort.

Principal Accountabilities

Business Development – 50%

  • Analyze new growth opportunities in new markets and new channels

  • Develop business case by assessing customer needs, industry trends, competitive landscape/competitive advantage and strategic alignment

  • Establish implementation plan including building/acquiring of necessary capabilities

  • Incubate new business, if applicable

Strategy Development – 20%

  • Assist the business unit in its strategy execution and refresh

  • Work with product lines on their strategy needs

Support other Business Development team projects – 30%

  • Collect competitor intelligence and perform benchmark analysis

  • Perform financial analysis to extract business insights and provide inputs to strategy and business development

Qualifications

Required

  • BA/BS degree, preferably in Business, Finance, Statistics or related field

  • 5 years minimum relevant work experience, such as strategy and business development or financial/commodity commercial experience (e.g. trading, merchandising/sales)

  • Strategic thinking skills and ability to add structure to nebulous issues/problems/situations, and undertake project assignments with minimal supervision

  • Strong analytical skills to translate data into business insights, familiarity with a statistical programing package (e.g. R, Python) and visualization tool (e.g. Tableau)

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills - ability to effectively influence decision makers across the globe/multiple layers/functions

  • Strong presentation skills, including ability to produce clear and concise presentation materials

Preferred

  • MBA degree in Data Science, Finance, Statistics or related field

  • 10 years relevant work experience, consisting of both strategy/business development and financial/commodity commercial experience (e.g. trading, merchandising/sales)

  • Experience in commercial software development including use of version control systems
