This full time position is located at Hutchinson, Kansas. Relocation assistance is not provided.

Position Purpose

  • To safely perform all labor necessary to receive, store, recycle and direct flow of quality bulk salt to bulk carriers from the silo and to mini bulk bags from the bins.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the operation of silo, mini bulk, and related equipment including LOTO procedures, confined spaces and critical tasks.

  • Preventative maintenance on bridge belt, magnets, screeners, silo and bulk loading equipment, mini bulk equipment, including replacing belts and screens.

  • Must know and understand all equipment used in conveying, additive and monitoring systems for all products for supersack loading and bulk loading and their proper operating procedures.

  • Responsible to carry out Master Sanitation Schedule and assure the bulk and mini bulk loading operations meet or exceed FSSC 22000, and Good Manufacturing Practices at all times.

  • Know and understand product specifications and ensure proper additives and amounts thereof with Quality Assurance standards. Obtain samples of packaged products and their additives as required by Quality Assurance (this includes testing of all additives).

  • Scaling and cleaning bulk conveying equipment as required by Master Sanitation Schedule.

  • Loading bulk salt not to exceed maximum legal weight limits.

  • Periodic checks on truck and rail scale pit to inspect equipment, water, pit cleanliness for preventative maintenance purposes. Note: A bin entry permit will be necessary.

  • Thoroughly inspect, clean out, and wash the interior of hopper cars to meet required standards for shipment of product. There must not be any foreign matter left in the car prior to loading. Inspection will consist of determining if a weather tight seal exists on hatch, that there is no obvious leak in the roof, the interior walls, ceiling, crevices, discharge gate and hatch are absolutely clean and operable.

  • Thoroughly inspect all bulk trucks prior to loading to assure proper cleanliness. If not clean enough, do not load, reject trailer, and then contact Traffic Department. Use a full body harness and retractable for inspection. Obtain necessary food grade wash certificates and follow food grade loading procedures. Make necessary product specification checks, YPS tests and filter pad tests as required.

  • Maintain track and scale areas in a high state of housekeeping to meet the standards required of a food grade facility.

  • Ensure that incoming trucks do not dump grain or other residue on grounds prior to loading. Do not allowdumping.

  • Clean out plugged augers and legs as necessary using the plant lockout procedures.

  • Operates Trackmobile moving both loaded and unloaded cars as necessary per Critical Task Analysis.

  • Performs operator maintenance and lubrication on Trackmobile.

  • Prompt and courteous attention and treatment of all bulk salt truck drivers. Communicates with customers/drivers in a professional manner.

  • Maintains communications with evaporator and bin building operators for instructions on salt requirements and necessary scale checks.

  • Maintains dust collection systems to operate at peak capacity.

  • Operates in a safe manner which will prevent injury to self and others.

  • Must be familiar with rail trackage and careful to use switches properly to avoid derailment and damage to switches.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned such as painting of facilities, machinery, and structure.

  • Performs work in a cooperative, courteous and efficient manner.

  • Assist with the product orders that need to be run.

  • YPS addition and other food grade additives must be taken care of by the bulk loader.

  • Must know how many shaker screens need to be kept in stock in the storeroom and elp maintain that inventory.

  • Must run the mini bulk bagger at standard.

  • Pull and wrap product off the mini bulk line as needed, in the event that the line driver is unavailable.

  • Maintain the food integrity of the mini bulk system.

  • Work with the procurement at maintaining the proper inventory of bags and the food safety of the bags kept on hand.

  • Complete tasks as assigned per the Master Sanitation Schedule.

  • Perform all minor repair work relating to the mini bulk system.

  • Keep track of product that has been run and in stock. Work with shipping to understand this.

  • Work with Supply Chain on future orders. If they can be added and when they can be shipped.

  • Maintain all other equipment added to the MBB system.

  • Must be able to use computer to pull orders, track inventory, and look up customer requirements. Understand and be able to use SAP functions/T-codes.

  • Must understand and abide by Union contract and Employee Resource Guide.

  • Must understand and adhere to customer requirements for mini bulk packaging (i.e. extra labels, composite samples, milk pad tests, etc.).

  • Cargill requires that employees be a minimum of 18 years old.

  • Must be able to read and write; ability to follow safety, production and quality requirements.

  • Must be able to perform physical job duties including bending/stooping, climbing ladders, open/close valves, shoveling, pounding with hammer and work in confined spaces

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds

  • Must be able to work under special work conditions, such as extreme heat or cold.
