Cargill’s Cocoa plant in Liverpool is a production facility at the hub of the UK confectionary industry. As part of our Cocoa and Chocolate business we produce a full range of milk, white and plain chocolate in bulk liquid and compound form used in various applications for customers in the confectionery, biscuit, bakery and dairy industries.

We are looking to appoint a multi skilled lead production operative able to operate in full the production process and equipment for the manufacture of both liquid and solid chocolate. This will also entail providing first line technical guidance on both the product and the process and perform first line maintenance and asset care for production equipment. As a Lead Operator you will also provide full support to the Shift Team Leader including holiday and absence cover.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Operation of Process equipment e.g. refiners, conches, RM Big bag system, depositors

  • Operation of the Automated Control System

  • QC sampling and inspection of WIP and finished product

  • Palletised stock control including; receipt, picking, line feeding and dispatch

  • Offloading bulk raw material tankers and loading bulk finished product tankers

  • Provide technical expertise for both the product and the manufacturing process

  • Ensure adherence to all Process parameters and Product specifications, ensuring appropriate corrective actions to all alarms and deviations

  • First line maintenance and asset care for Production equipment

  • Complete Internal audits e.g. VBS, Process Control, GMP and 5S

  • Participate in Improvement Project initiatives and Safety (VBS, SOR) & Food safety (HACCP) teams

  • Maintain acceptable housekeeping and hygiene standards in the factory and perimeter areas


  • Previous experience of working within a manufacturing environment ideally food or related industries

  • Hands on experience of operating process equipment and automated process control systems

  • Experience of providing quality control on the finished product

  • Food safety qualifications would be an advantage e.g. Foundation food hygiene certificate, HACCP (level2)

  • Experience in Project improvement initiatives as part of a team

  • Problem solving techniques and LEAN manufacturing skills

  • Experience of safety systems including condition auditing, risk assessments and Permits To Work

  • Team Orientation and a collaborative working style

  • Good IT Skills

  • Ability to multi task in a high pressure environment.
