Cargill’s portfolio of refined vegetable oils allows our customers in food manufacturing, retail, catering and food services to create a wide range of tasty and nutritious food products. We partner with our customers to develop innovative products and solutions together to help them meet their consumer’s requirements.

We are looking to appoint a Reliability Project Engineer based out of our crush and refinery plant in Liverpool (Seaforth). The prime purpose of the Reliability Project Engineer is to identify pro-active maintenance requirements for new assets to increase plant productivity, maximise reliability performance in a sustainable way and to capture all opportunities to improve processes while reducing total cost.

This will be achieved through actions to; review and update the site criticality assessments, review and improve Equipment Reliability Strategies (ERS), ensure appropriate deployment of strategies, follow up with appropriate action to restore asset integrity and investigations into failures to eliminate their root causes.

All opportunities to improve asset health will be captured whilst complying with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and Food Safety requirements and in alignment with Reliability Excellence practices.

The successful candidate will have an excellent opportunity to embed Cargill’s Maintenance excellence agenda in a significant expansion of our Seaforth plant closely collaborating with all technical and plant operational personnel in addition to our centres of best practice.

Main Tasks:

  • Ensure all work is conducted safely at all times, adhering to the Behavioural Based Safety (BBS) system

  • Manage and lead Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to determine equipment functionality, capability, probability of failure and mitigate the impact and severity of failures

  • Take ownership of and lead the criticality assessment of all new assets to reduce repeat failures

  • Work closely with Cargill Centre’s of Excellent to ensure best practice maintenance reliability techniques are embedded at the Seaforth plant

  • To review the project charter and support reviewing P&ID’s, mass and energy balances, supporting HAZAN/ HAZOP/ SWIFT studies ensuring safe and cost effective designs

  • Ensure the project schedule is adhered to

  • Working with different functions ensuring best practice is followed

  • Champion Cargill Maintenance and Reliability practices with other teams, ensuring project designs align with the scope of work

  • Supporting on overseeing construction supervision, permits to work and audits and ensuring all contracts work safely at all times


  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering subject e.g. Chemical, Process Management, Mechanical Engineering

  • Able to work safely and embed a strong safety culture

  • Experience from a heavy industrial processing background (e.g. Chemicals, Heavy Pharmaceuticals, Biofuels, Food/feed)

  • Deep understanding of predictive maintenance technologies and maintenance strategy

  • Understanding of asset criticality and reliability design principals

  • Proven track record of successful project delivery (safe, on time, in budget)

  • Experience in process design and HAZOP leadership

  • Experience working with management KPI’s a Computerised Maintenance Management System – (Maximo preferred)

  • Experience with data management tools and systems, including but not limited to; Pi, Minitab, RtDuet and Microsoft Excel would be preferred

  • Proven hands-on knowledge of and passion for continuous improvement and problem solving techniques e.g. Kaizen, Lean 6 Sigma, RCA

  • Demonstrated ability to influence others and work with multifunctional teams and personnel

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple initiatives/projects and communicate goals, objectives and accomplishments to a broad audience

  • Clear verbal and written communication in fluent English
