Position Summary & Purpose
The Instrumentation Specialist is part of the Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate North America (CCCNA) Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory (FSQR) Support team and will provide regional support for all instrumentation and analytical activities.The role provides analytical and instrument support for operations, product development, customer service and sales.The Instrumentation Specialist is responsible for conducting wet chemistry in the analytical lab.This role is responsible for driving continuous improvement in the CCCNA chemical and physical testing program.This includes providing method alignment across CCCNA working with Cargill’s Center of Expertise and owning the analytical proficiency testing, calibration, verification and validation programs.The Instrumentation Specialist is aware of quality and regulatory compliance standards for chocolate and compound products.The Instrumenation Specialist may also perform audits of analytical laboratories and provide training to FSQ technicians.
40% - Conduct wet chemistry analytical testing using methods including HPLC, GC, AA, NMR and other chemical and physical testing in support of operations, product development, and our customers.
30% - Lead laboratory safety programs as well as analytical method and procedure alignment with CCCNA FSQR. Provide data analysis, trend identification, troubleshooting and corrective action communication and training to drive continuous improvement in CCNA laboratory safety and analytical testing methods.
20% - Lead CCCNA FSQR equipment maintenance, calibration, verification and validation programs within the North American region. Owns CCNA proficiency testing program for analytical testing methods used within FSQR and Operations.
10% - Support Global CCC analytical method alignment activities. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum 3-year analytical laboratory and instrumentation experience
Flexible, able to provide periodic support on nights, holidays and weekends as required.
Must be able to walk, sit, stand for extended periods
Must be able to lift 50 pounds
Able to navigate safely in an industrial and lab environment (e.g., ladders, stairs, stationary and moving industrial equipment)
Ability to adapt and learn in a changing work environment
Ability to manage multiple priorities
Strong Attention to detail
Microsoft Office Suite experience
Demonstrated strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written
Ability to travel up to 15%
Bachelor of Science in Chemistry
Food Safety, Quality or Production experience in a food manufacturing environment
Experience using HPLC, GC, AA, NMR and NIR technologies
Experience using SAP
Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs)
Basic knowledge of HACCP, FSSC 22000 and ISO 17025
Knowledge of safe practices when handling and disposing of chemicals
Project management experience
