Cargill’s Agricultural Supply Chain – North America (CASC NA) connects agricultural producers to food, feed and industrial customers through a seamless supply chain. We help our customers compete in the global market and efficiently deliver products from origins to destinations through our marketing, sourcing, originating, storing, trading, consulting and processing of grain, oilseeds and crop inputs products and solutions. CASC NA business reaches across Canada, United States & Mexico with an expansive asset footprint including over 200 grain elevators, export/import facilities, oilseed crush plants, biodiesel facilities, and farm service centers.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Regional Agronomy Leader and a member of the Location Team, as the Agronomist you will be responsible for contributing to crop input sales by leading with knowledge to position products that proactively help our farm customers grow better crops. In this position you will work directly as part of the location team to provide agronomic and crop production solutions for our farm customers. By providing superior crop production advice and knowledge, you will help our farm customers make better decisions for their business. Our agronomic knowledge will differentiate Cargill from our competitors, leading to stronger business relationships with our customers, and in turn, resulting in incremental sales and margin opportunities for Cargill.

Principal Accountabilities:

40% - The position will spend time with existing and prospect customers helping them grow better crops through making sound crop production and risk management decisions. Areas of focus will include; crop planning, seed selection, nutrient, weed, disease, insect and harvest management. The Agronomist will work together with the location sales team in positioning products that proactively help our farm customers grow better crops. This will include joint farm calls with Sales Representatives as well independent farm calls. The Agronomist will execute the customer focus fundamentals and the best practices as outlined in the Green Book.

40% - The Agronomist will be responsible for executing on Cargill’s crop input market development plans. This will include customer field meetings, cooperative product trials, customer agronomy events, marketing support (social media, blogging) and delivery of Cargill’s crop planning services. Agronomists will also be expected to maintain good relationships with our key crop input suppliers.

10% - The position will be required to be the “Expert” in crop production for the location team. This will include providing local crop production training to the location staff.

10% - The Agronomist will provide leadership, direction and training to Agronomic Interns. This position will coach other. Agronomists and Sales Reps and may directly supervise an Agronomy Associate.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada

  • Bachelor´s degree in Agronomy or related discipline OR diploma in Agronomy or related discipline plus equivalent work experience.

  • 5 years of field and industry experience.

  • Eligible for membership in the Provincial Institute of Agrologic. Future requirement will be to obtain CCA accreditation.

  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills

  • Technically sound in agronomy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of Agronomic Services, farm customers and the agriculture industry.

  • Strong understanding of the crop inputs business and the significance of supplier relationships.

  • Solid understanding of the Canadian agricultural production and farm management.

  • Strong sales aptitude

  • Excellent organizational skills
