Job location: Naas, Republic of Ireland

Cargill’s pre-mix and nutrition business has locations in the UK & Ireland employing approximately 170 employees across three sites with an annual turnover of approximately $100m.

The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the company’s Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) systems are compliant with all legislation and regulatory requirements and they adhere to Cargill policy and procedures. The position holder will also advise, implement and support on systems and procedures that ensure all activities on site are conducted in a safe manner.

Main Tasks:

  • Monitor, report and implement systems and procedures in line with Health and Safety and Environment legislation, ensuring Cargill requirements are fully incorporated

  • Act as the site competent person

  • Monitor, investigate and report all near accident, near miss and hazards in line with Cargill reporting deadlines

  • Coordinate all Health, Safety and Environmental risk training ensuring legislative and Cargill requirements are met including induction of all staff to site

  • Conduct EHS risk assessments and implement new systems of work to ensure risks are mitigated

  • Report on the environmental impacts of all activities conducted on site, ensuring all requirements of permits are met

  • Advise on any changes in legislation and implement new systems to respond to legislative change.


  • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject e.g. science, food studies or food technology or similar experience

  • Advanced formal qualification in Health and Safety e.g. NEBOSH or IOSH

  • Knowledge and practical application of formal Health & Safety and Environmental legislation preferably from a food/ feed background

  • Six Sigma Green/ Black Belt would be advantageous

  • Experience with third party auditing and regulatory bodies

  • In depth knowledge of accident investigation and root cause analysis investigation tools

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages

  • Self-starter; highly motivated and able to work independently as well as in a multi-functional team

  • Able to proactively identify and resolve problems and drive the site Health and Safety culture

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills at all levels of the organisation

  • Proven experience in prioritizing work
