As a member of the Cargill Protein Distribution team in Southern California , the Distribution Assistant Operations Manager is responsible for supervising and managing the location’s first shift operations activities, receiving, picking, loading and unloading customer orders onto and from refrigerated trucks, invoicing orders, inventory management and completing all necessary paperwork for all customers in the South California Region, Vegas & Arizona. The Assistant Operations Manager will also set performance expectations, hold/engage distribution team accountable to those expectations and be expected to perform all of job functions of the team they supervise. Assistant Operations Manager is also responsible for people management, process improvements, food safety, employee health, safety, warehouse activities and transportation where applicable. The candidate must be able to operate a forklift, pallet jack, work closely with the Operations Manager, Location General Manager, Sales Team, Buyer Team, the local leadership team along with the corporate Operations Manager located in Wichita, KS. Also, the position requires collaboration skills with the 3rd party logistics team.

Principal Accountabilities

40% - Daily warehouse management.

30% - People Management EHS, FOODSAFETY Compliance and Training.

15% - Work with the Sales & Buying Team on – route management and efficiencies, returns.

10% - Daily interaction with the finance team and monthly inventory reconciliations.

5% - Daily transportation management, working with 3rd Party Logistics Partner.


Required Qualifications

  • College degree.

  • 2 years of experience in similar roles

  • In the lieu of the degree 16 years of experience.

  • Supervisory experience managing a team

  • Must have strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact well with all levels within an organization, both internal and external

  • Must be detail oriented and have exceptional documentation skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and Related programs

  • Bi-lingual (Spanish/English)

  • Ability to work Weekends, Nights and Holidays

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5-year experience working in a cold chain warehouse and/or distribution environment

  • 2 years’ experience with transportation and logistics

  • SAP system experience

  • Provide leadership to the sales team and create an engaging environment to achieve established location goals

  • Working knowledge of warehouse management systems

  • Demonstrated experience achieving a high level of Engagement working closely with Management, Sales, Environmental Health and Employee Safety and 3rd party Logistics partners.
