Position Purpose & Summary

The Sr. Technical Services Specialist, Bakery will deliver value for the Bakery Category & Lecithin Product Line (PL) by:

  1. Applying market knowledge, customer insights and technical depth in Bakery & Lecithin application spaces to inform the business strategy and identify growth opportunities.

  2. Identifying and executing new business development projects through direct relationships with key customers, direct management of projects, and by providing technical expertise, product line knowledge, and support to other Technical Service and Sales colleagues.

  3. Managing, prioritizing and reporting on a portfolio of new business development and support projects.

Principal Accountabilities

Location: the preferred location for this position is Plymouth, MN although a remote working arrangement will be considered.

60% Responsible for a strategic set of customer accounts in the Bakery space. Hunt for new opportunities aligning customer needs and market drivers with our capabilities by developing deep relationships with customers and providing technical credibility that drives differentiation and innovation. Shares intimate customer knowledge, and provides insight to customer needs, trends and competitor comparisons.

30% Coordinate technical tag responsibilities tied to the Texturizers & Specialties (T&S) Lecithin product line, which can include but is not limited to: managing the project portfolio and ensuring pipeline goals are met, actively participating in product working team meetings, leading Product Line project review meetings, supporting Delivery Office initiatives, providing trainings and keeping training up-to-date, and helping support project pipeline development and growth. Troubleshoot issues with ingredients, formulations, processes, and assist in resolving complaints. Additionally, apply deep ingredient knowledge in lecithin and be the leading lecithin expert within the Technical Services team. This will require staying current and contributing to literature and technical developments related to product line, collaborating with global colleagues, and any other duties as assigned, as well as bring market insights back to the Lecithin team.

10% Leverages internal and external resources for part of the T&S TS team to effectively deliver TS goals. Works with Sales and Marketing on customer satisfaction, and account planning. Prioritize projects according to the product line strategy and available capacity; drive projects to completion by working with project teams to clearly identify scope and timelines, secure necessary resources, and remove barriers to success.



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry or a related degree.

  • Minimum 5 years in Research & Development or Technical Services

  • Ability to promote and work within an inclusive environment.

  • Bakery research, food product development, or ingredient technical service experience.

  • Experience working with lecithin and / or other bakery emulsifiers. Knowledge of their interactions in food systems.

  • Demonstrated collaboration skills, both within and between groups, as well as with external customers.

  • Effective communication of in-depth technical information at all levels within Cargill and with customers, and excellent communication and influencing skills, particularly verbal and presentation skills.

  • Prior experience managing customer relationships.

  • Ability to adapt and learn in a changing work environment and manage multiple priorities.

  • Ability to work independently and in team environment.

  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated high level of agility.

  • Ability to travel up to 50%.


  • Master’s Degree in Science or Food Science.

  • Strong Lecithin knowledge.

  • Demonstrated customer relationship management.

  • Customer data capture ( experience.

  • Technical Project Management experience.

  • Applications expertise in the Bakery category.

  • Demonstrated creativity, collaboration and innovation skills.
