To lead the Canada Pork & Poultry strategic marketing and technology initiatives with a high level of expertise, innovation and strategic planning to drive profitable growth, customer satisfaction and industry leadership. This position will interface with company sales, marketing, technical and operation leaders plus the end feed customer to build, implement and execute marketing strategies to promote CAN pork & poultry products, programs & services. As well, the individual will be expected to cultivate a personal development plan to evolve certain skill-sets to advance into new and higher value responsibilities.
30% - Strategic Marketing: Develop and implement strategic marketing plans for the CAN Canada Pork & Poultry business opportunities. Establish a formal product and services portfolio and innovation pipeline from the global and local teams to differentiate from the competition and deliver the strategy. Lead and proactively update customer segmentation charts to ensure the business remains relevant and is perceived better than the competition in the targeted segments.
20% - Business Results & Intelligence: Support annual business planning for the New Product Services and Solutions (NPSS) in the Pork & Poultry segments. Cohesively work with sales leaders and technology team to measure and manage effective product portfolios and NPSS’ that deliver value to the customer and to Cargill. Focus on enhancing perceived value for targeted customer segments and developing a value based pricing culture and capabilities.
20% - Technology: Translate strategies called out in the strategic marketing plans into technology priorities that drive technology resource allocation and research trials. Lead the technology team to ensure that the Strategic Marketing and Technology team are fully aligned with each other, with commercial needs, and with the Global SMT team.
10% - Tactical Marketing: Support the tactical marketing plans for the business with respect to developing the offering defined in strategic marketing plans (people, positioning, product, pricing, packaging, place, promotion) while closely partnering with the technology and sales teams across the region to deliver the financial results. Help gain and analyze competitive intelligence to position products & services to strengthen the business.
10% - Talent & Capabilities: Develop marketing capabilities along with identifying skills required to serve the target customer segments. Be actively engaged in the recruiting, hiring, coaching, supervising, and developing of marketing and technology staff for the animal nutrition business.
10% - Collaboration: Partner with other marketing and technology leaders across Cargill Animal Nutrition to build relationships, share best practices, gain insight on innovation and opportunities plus access the ‘voice of the customer’.
Bachelor’s degree in an agricultural or business discipline or equivalent experience in business
Passion for understanding, creating, and communicating value to team members and customers
8-10 years of business experience
5 years of experience in swine or poultry industries
3 years in strategic/tactical marketing with proven success in leading to impact the business financial results
Experience in go-to-market, including leading projects, managing resources, preparing new product introductions, and measuring results
Experience in financial management including budgets, expenses and pricing
Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada
Masters degree, preferably in Business, Business Administration, Marketing; or Swine or Poultry nutrition
Experience working with technical teams on product innovation and solutions
Cargill 9-day Marketing Academy learning or equivalent strategic marketing program, along with certification
Experience in applying the Cargill Animal Nutrition customer segmentation methodologies
Application of Cargill Animal Nutrition Customer-Focused Development methodologies
Bilingual in French & English
Must have sense of urgency and entrepreneurial proven track record
Proven ability to effectively collaborate, influence and lead change
Ability to understand pork and poultry producer needs and design differentiated innovative offerings
Recognition and respect in the pork or poultry industry through past customer facing or technology experience
Demonstrated ability to perform/deal with ambiguity
Highly organized, self-starter able to set and follow priorities and manage multiple projects
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
Functional in the use of basic computer program such as word, excel, power-point, etc.
Ability to communicate well in English (written, verbal)
