As the Business Development Lead you will hold a strategic sales position for the retail channel for Cargill Protein in Canada . You will be responsible for the strategic development of Western Canadian retail customers and also to support the Food Service business in Western Canada where required.

In this role you will work from a home office and travel regularly to visit customers. With a large portion of the customers we serve being in the Calgary geography we see this as being an ideal location for this role to be situated, however we will consider other locations within the Western Canadian landscape.

Principal Accountabilities:

50%Strategic Business Development– Responsible for business performance for the strategic retail customers in Western Canada, which involves:

  • having a full understanding of the customers’ business and how Cargill capabilities can service them in a sustainable strategic manner through product, service and programs

  • extensive relationship development with the key decision makers at these customers, requiring a detailed understanding of these customers goals and objectives

  • monitoring scorecard metrics regularly, with ongoing action plans created to enhance performance

25%Internal Collaboration– Extensive collaboration with the Canadian sales team is required, this includes:

  • alignment with the Western Regional leader and account managers

  • collaboration with peers on the sales leadership team

  • various functions throughout the Cargill organization, including operations, marketing, pricing, business management, consumer insights, and finance

15%Customer Support- The strategic plan for customers in the Food Service and Protein Ingredient channels will be created by the channel, but this role will support the execution of the plan for these customers where required.

10%Business Planning– Analysis, insights and ongoing key initiatives will be the focus. To achieve success you will have a full understanding of POWER BI in relation to customer performance, analytics and tools. You will use the Salesforce tool for all planning , meetings and customer opportunities.


Required Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary education and / or 5 years’ experience in retail protein sales

  • 10 years selling experience

  • Extensive knowledge of the Western Canadian retail landscape

  • Technical meat knowledge

  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft office

  • Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada
