Currently we are looking for a Commercial Management Trainees to join our team in a start position at Schiphol, the Netherlands, for our business unit Ocean Transportation.

Cargill Ocean Transportation is a leader in chartering, trading, logistics, operations and risk management of ocean freight solutions. Cargill Ocean Transportation’s business focuses on developing internal and third-party customer, logistics and risk management solutions. The company serves a diverse portfolio of customers from the mining, electricity and steel industries and participates in all the major flows of coal, iron ore, bauxite, cement and grains.

Along with Cargill’s global commodity expertise and insight in agriculture, energy, industrial and mineral industries, Cargill Ocean Transportation is able to provide complementary trade flows; logistics supply chain expertise and financial stability. It also provides commodity and market expertise, physical freight, risk management services and custom solutions and ship vetting.

The Commercial Management Trainee is an early career employee who is following a structured training and development program, designed to build and develop specific skills, knowledge and attitudes that will enable them to transition to junior roles in the areas of trading and merchandising. This particular traineeship is timebound (24 months) and is yet dependent upon meeting performance expectations.

THE TEAM

The team with the open position is responsible for the chartering of vessels for Cargill product lines as well as for trading freight for own account. This includes analyzing markets, forecasting price and market movements, advising customers and the flawless execution of the charter parties. The team sells and buys coaster freight to/from internal and external parties and commercially manages a fleet of coaster vessels. The hierarchy on the desk is flat, the atmosphere in the team is open, honest and direct.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Create game plan for chartering in of vessels while complying with Cargill vetting policy.

  • Provide customers with quick and accurate spot and forward freight quotes.

  • Maintain and improve pricing grid for main trading routes.

  • Developing market knowledge through interaction with market participants.

  • Develop knowledge of the specific trades, as well as logistics, contract terms and operations.

  • Develop Account Management skills to assist with customer development activities.

  • Maintain and further develop collaborative relationships with BU’s and platform(s).

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for curious candidates with an appetite for risk and a strong interest in global (commodity) markets. Your numerical and analytical capabilities must be top-notch. Your drive for accuracy in administration, risk reporting and market analysis must be immaculate.

On top of that you have an entrepreneurial spirit and are not afraid to challenge the status quo. You think out of the box and will share our acquired knowledge, opinions and views to the broader organization. A high level of collaboration with customers, logistics, service providers, traders and operations will be demanded.

The preferred candidate is curious, resilient, determined and is able to develop and leverage deep customer knowledge and insights. Lastly you need to be able to deal with a substantial workload under high time pressure.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A Master’s degree

  • Outstanding numerical and analytical capabilities

  • Excellent learning and execution capacity

  • Fluent English, other modern European language skills are a definite plus

  • Computer literacy

A numerical test will be part of the selection process.
