Currently we are looking for a COMMODITY MERCHANDISING TRAINEE to join our team in a start position at Schiphol, the Netherlands, for our Cargill Agricultural Supply Chain EMEA Group.
In the Cargill Agricultural Supply Chain (CASC) EMEA Group we operate on an integrated global basis to source, process, transport and distribute grain and oilseeds around the world. The main bulk products we handle are wheat, corn, oilseeds, barley and sorghum, as well as vegetable oils and meals.
The position provides an extensive 24 months training mainly in Merchandising, but also Risk Management, Trading Operations and Market Analysis, to produce excellent commodity merchandising professionals in diverse agricultural commodities: grains, oilseeds, feed and processing by-products. On successful completion of training the trainee will embark on an exciting commercial career in the Merchandising Job Family with one of the CASC EMEA product lines in the dedicated country.
The team with the open position is responsible for managing trading risks, for both internal Cargill groups as well as external customers. This specifically includes analyzing markets, forecasting price and market movements, advising customers, sales and purchase, and the responsibility for the execution of the contracts. The team operates on a group level, meaning that it maintains close contacts with other trading hubs across the global Cargill network. The hierarchy on the desk is flat, the atmosphere in the team is open, honest and direct.
Learn the Agricultural commodities trading industry: worldwide, historical evolution, mission, our role in it, figures, flows, inventories, transportation, commodities, quality specifics for each product.
Know the local market for Commodity Merchandising: value, partners, flows, common behaviors, related legislation, fiscal policy around it
Learn what are the influencers: market SND balances, Industry economics, technological change, external political and global environment
Understand the local SND equilibrium factors
Understand the PNL elements and how to best manage it
Know INCOTERMS and local exceptions from them
Learn on various Transport modes and Operations/Storage costs
Develop skills on Cargill's trading and hedging strategies, tactics and practices, including the use of futures, risk management derivatives and structured products
Develop working knowledge of economic Supply / Demand research and analysis
Initiate, negotiate and agree on terms of commodity purchase, sale contracts, such as price, quality, quantity, transportation, timing and payment
Coordinate transportation and logistics to execute commodity contracts
Ensure thorough and accurate follow-up, execution, and closure of all contracts
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for curious candidates with an appetite for risk and a strong interest in global (commodity) markets. Your numerical and analytical capabilities must be top-notch. Your drive for accuracy in administration, risk reporting and market analysis must be immaculate. On top of that you have an entrepreneurial spirit and are not afraid to challenge the status quo. You think out of the box and will share our acquired knowledge, opinions and views to the broader organization. A high level of collaboration with customers, logistics, service providers, traders and operations will be demanded. The preferred candidate is curious, resilient, determined and is able to develop and leverage deep customer knowledge and insights. Lastly you need to be able to deal with a substantial workload under high time pressure.
Minimum Required Qualifications
University degree: preferred major - marketing, finance, economics
Up to 3 years of prior internship/work experience
Business fluency in English. Any other language a strong plus
