Position Purpose

The Cargill Metals and Shipping Enterprise is comprised of Business Units tasked with the trading and processing of ferrous and transportation related commodities. The Metals Business is headquartered in Singapore with other sales and representative offices around the world.

The Credit Risk Manager is responsible for:

Credit Risk Management

  • Identify credit risk in trades, interact with counterparty risk analysts closely to understand new risk types and express it correctly in risk measurement and reporting.

  • Initiate and complete insightful advanced analysis on credit risk usage and risk reward across business and product lines.

  • Participate in BU wide business intelligence project and business analysis.

  • Support risk appetite discussions across the BU at leadership level and facilitate and challenge the allocation of credit risk appetite.

  • Recommend appropriate portfolio or name level risk appetite according to an understanding of risk reward, business strategy and market environment.

  • Manage/ design efficient processes for exposure calculation

  • Manage/ design efficient modelling processes for credit stress, expected exposure

  • Manage alignment and governance over credit modelling process.

Counterparty Risk Management:

  • Monitor and approve counterparties for mtm, trade credit or contingent exposure

  • Advocate credit limits to management, monitor limit usage.

  • Recommend appropriate portfolio or name level risk appetite according to an understanding of risk reward, business strategy and market environment.

  • Collaborate with business (traders, businesss development, structuring, origination teams) on new structures or new trades

  • Understand structured trade finance products, able to identify their associated risks or use in credit risk mitigation.

  • Design risk mitigation or collateral solutions and propose to the business.

  • Monitor trades through their life cycle and ensure proper monitoring/ measurement of risk and proper settlement.

  • Build strong relationship with trading/ structuring/ origination teams, able to challenge them independently on risk reward assessment and counterparty risk assessment, able to extrapolate what is required to support the commercial teams in the next phase of their strategy and gather resources to execute effectively.

  • Collect counterparty information thru site visits and interviews with traders, sending questionnaire surveys and verifying results.

  • In charge of credit scoring the counterparty using centralized model

  • Set up dashboard for the counterparty.

Qualifications

Education

Good university degree or higher with commercial, accounting and risk management qualifications.

Experience

Requirements:

  • At least 8 years relevant experience in credit risk analysis

  • Quantitative understanding and experience of credit risk modelling and measurement

  • Strong process design skills

  • Strong presentation and communication skills

  • Able to interact with all levels of organization and across functions

  • Automation mindset

  • Able to make risk reward assessments.

  • Credit risk experience esp if in emerging markets esp in companies dealing with physical commodities supply chain and facing China

  • Capital markets experience or experience in commodity structured trade finance is a bonus.

Preferred:

  • Solid practical experience in a physical commodity trading environment.

  • Mandarin speaking as this role will be dealing with the China markets and working closely with the Chinese counterparts.
