Agribrands Purina Canada Inc. division of Cargill, with operations in 23 countries, 4 continents and 170 operating plants, is a leading manufacturer and distributor of feed and nutritional products for livestock and pets.

As a Packaging Operator at our Animal Nutrition facility in Strathroy, you will be responsible for safe and efficient hands-on duties including operating manufacturing machinery, driving forklifts and maintaining the facility and grounds.

Principal Accountabilities:

Plant Operation and Risk management – Operate plant equipment to manufacture feed safely and efficiently while meeting all truck loading requirements; ensure plant and yard are clean and safe for customers and employees; perform minor mechanical maintenance which may include assisting on-site contractors and maintenance personnel; operate equipment to blend and package feed; ensure customers receive the products and services they require in an efficient and timely manner; assist plant management in managing inventory.

Safety Compliance – Participate in Provincial/Federal regulatory and Cargill compliance training sessions and programs; participate in regular plant inspections and monthly safety meetings to review procedures, housekeeping, and safety awareness issues; keep current with training to handle dangerous goods as per the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and additional safety training programs including WHMIS, confined space, forklift, etc.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Must be able to work in an environment with varying temperatures, including working partially outdoors, indoors, and in dusty – noisy environments

  • Ability to perform physical tasks that require climbing, lifting, pushing, and pulling from heights in varying climate and environment conditions

  • Valid Canadian driver’s license with the ability to operate a vehicle

  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate, service, and troubleshoot machinery

  • Must be willing and/or able to work flexible work hours throughout the year including additional hours beyond regularly scheduled shifts, evenings, weekends and holidays when required

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of the team

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with strong a customer focus

  • Strong problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills

  • Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada

Preferred:

  • Previous work experience within a manufacturing or a plant setting

  • Proven ability to manage compliance with Environment, Health & Safety and Operations standards and regulations

  • Familiarity with a computerized mechanical system

  • Knowledge of inventory control, quality management, operating efficiency and budget management

  • Agricultural experience or specialized knowledge of grain handling and crop input products
