The Sustainability Analyst will actively advance Cargill’s sustainability efforts related to five primary focus areas: Climate Change, Land Use, Water Resources, Food Waste, and Farmer Livelihoods. This role is responsible for supporting the effective evaluation and management of sustainability initiatives and developing business cases that outline both the environmental and commercial impact of project execution. The Sustainability Analyst will interact with relevant internal and external parties across multiple businesses, to obtain the necessary information to effectively evaluate initiatives and build recommendations

Principal Accountabilities:

70% - Analysis and Insight

  • Support qualitative and quantitative analysis related to Cargill’s sustainable supply chains strategy development and execution across climate (scopes 1, 2, 3), water resources, food waste, and land use and other focus areas

  • Conduct complex impact analysis with limited/imperfect data

  • Work closely with corporate sustainability leads and other stakeholders to make progress on sustainability priorities

  • Determine key drivers and gather the necessary information to construct models that outline the financial and sustainability implications of initiatives

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and structure work plans to meet initiative goals and timelines

  • Communicate business cases for sustainability initiatives to key internal stakeholders

20% - Project Leadership and Execution

  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure adequate analysis, design, and development of sustainability analyses are completed

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and structure work plans to meet initiative goals and timelines

10% - Strategy

  • Develop and execute strategies to effectively and efficiently deliver data analytics support to Cargill’s sustainability efforts

  • Identify initiatives that have the potential for cross-business scalability


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor´s Degree

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite

  • Experience with statistical analysis and/or quantitative modeling

  • Interest and desire to work in the sustainability field

  • Minimum 3 years of experience or 1 year of experience with a relevant master’s degree

  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills; ability to make data-driven recommendations

  • Experience working with large data sets

  • Ability to conduct complex analysis with limited/imperfect data

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and operate in ambiguous situations

  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and work with partners to understand the business context

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Creative thinker, effective problem solver

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the animal, agriculture, and/or food industry

  • Familiarity with greenhouse gas accounting

  • Familiarity with water foot printing

  • Advance degree in relevant business or technical discipline

  • Experience with Tableau or other BI platforms

  • Experience with GIS

  • Experience with sustainability reporting and KPI-related data and analysis

  • Experience with GRI, SASB or other sustainability reporting frameworks

  • Familiarity with Life Cycle Assessment
