Description

Position Purpose:

As a Merchant you will be responsible for West Fargo's Sunflower, Linseed and Canola Meal program. Execution of sales, customer relationships, commodity risk management , supply and demand analysis, recommending trading strategies and overseeing logistics execution, and arbitrage opportunities. Merchants work cross-functionally focusing on supply and demand factors, and customer satisfaction and solutions.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • 15% Price grain and/or oilseeds and their byproducts.

  • 20% Customer relationship management

  • 10% Understand and hedge for market risks such as Flat Price Risk, Futures Spreads, and Freight Risk.

  • 15% Execute purchases or sales to meet volume targets and provide relevant market data and manage inherent risk, Have a clear understanding and management of logistics, both truck and rail

  • 15% Analyze and plan cash positions and advise merchandising and logistics team with relevant market data.

  • 5% Reconcile P&L estimates with accounts.

  • 10% Use and understand Futures and CRMPG trading strategies and understand their inherent risk and rewards.

  • 10% Monitor positions and review daily P&L calculations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree, In lieu of degree 7 years experience.

  • Minimum 2 years of working experience

  • Understand relevant contract terms and customary business practices

  • Freight and logistics procedures and impact

  • Customer credit risk and how to analyze new customer risk

  • Detailed knowledge on related industries/products

  • Basic understanding of production, grain flows, freight rates, domestic and export demand within geography

  • Basic understanding of plant operations

  • Understanding of production and pipeline management

  • Understanding of merchandising (futures and basis)

  • Basic understanding of cash grain accounting (P&L understanding)

  • Understanding of industry trade rules

  • Ability to discover and identify customer needs and build customer relationships

  • Identifying and presenting product features and/or solutions

  • Understand market exposure responsibilities.

  • Understand credit policy and market exposure responsibilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills
