This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their purchasing and sourcing career. The Merchant is responsible for supply planning, position reporting and contract entry for the North Sea Risk Management and Sourcing (RMS) team. The Merchant also has responsibility for merchandising one to three raw materials on behalf of the RMS team. On a day to day basis the Merchant is responsible for communication, troubleshooting and problem solving with local suppliers in Scotland.

Main Tasks:

  • Maintain an accurate, up-to-date, centralized supply plan for all raw materials for all factories in Norway and Scotland

  • Maintain up-to-date records of inventory on-hand and inventory in-transit for each factory and raw material

  • Regularly update the demand forecast for each raw material based on sales forecast and commercial strategy

  • Work closely with RMS team on product formulation changes and subsequent impact to raw material usage and forward supply

  • Use data and predictive analytics to drive efficient and optimisation in supply chains and purchasing

  • Collaborate across functions to ensure efficient supply chains amid volatility in deliveries, sales forecast and formulation changes

  • Interact with local suppliers to obtain market and supply information owning the supplier relationships, seeking new suppliers and leading negotiations on price and contract terms

  • Ensure on- time, in- full delivery and performance of suppliers

  • Merchandise one to three local raw materials on behalf of the RMS team and analyse market risk-reward

  • Ensure position and risk reporting and accurate data input, adhering to financial limits

  • Enter purchase contracts, amends and cancellations and generate purchase reports and ensure audit compliant records



  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject

  • Proven experience in purchasing, business analytics, supply chain planning and or logistics

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and with the ability to learn new software quickly

  • Strong ability to understand markets, gather and analyze data and draw conclusions

  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively and also work independently

  • Strong curiosity and willingness to learn

  • Fluency in English

  • Prior experience with the salmon feed or fisheries industry would be advantageous but not essential

  • Prior experience in merchandising would be advantageous

  • Travel between Scotland and Norway is expected up to 25% of the time
