Position Purpose

Supports the Research and Development team by conducting research projects in the facility, understanding customer needs and participating in facility tasks and Pilot Plant operations. The position plays a key support role for research and product development being conducted by Food Scientists and Technology and Applications personnel

Principal Accountabilities

70%- Perform processing and operational duties for R&D team:

  • Comply with safety and food safety policies, supporting a zero injury culture within the Cargill Innovation Center.

  • Assembly and disassembly of meat plant equipment

  • Document product information including information needed to fully track sample products and that needed for research purposes (yields, processes, etc.)

  • Regulatory and HACCP documentation

  • Operation of meat plant equipment, basic meat cutting and production

  • Submission of samples to labs for analytical testing or shelf life testing

  • Preparation of products in the kitchens for informal and formal sensory panels

  • Preparing of samples and shipping to customers or Cargill employees

20% - Conduct tasks to support facility upkeep of facility and housekeeping tasks:

  • Pre-op/operational sanitation checks

  • Maintaining/stocking areas of facility

  • Supply orders/ inventory management

  • Raw material ordering/ inventory management

10% - Participate in employee training and provide input on plant procedures:

  • Assist in writing operational procedures of new equipment

  • Train new technicians/ scientists on use of plant equipment

Relocation will not be provided for this position.


Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 1 year meat processing experience or BS degree

  • Basic computer knowledge: Microsoft Office

  • Able to lift and carry 60lbs

  • Able and/or willing to climb stairs/ladders

Success Factors:

  • Highly motivated and Effective Communication Skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS in Food Science, Meat Science or related field

  • Previous Product Development experience

  • Meat Processing skills (formulation, cutting, etc.)
