The Senior Tax Analyst works within the Domestic Income Tax team at Cargill’s headquarters in Winnipeg, Canada. The Canadian Indirect Tax Team serves as the Center of Expertise for Canadian VAT (GST, HST, QST), provincial sales taxes, as well as other forms of indirect taxation (property or business tax, excise/motor fuel/insurance taxes, carbon/green taxes, etc.). The team generally handles and/or governs all aspects of these tax types, including tax determination, reporting, audit and planning activites. This group is also responsible for the successful deployment of OneSource Indirect tax (a global tax determination tool that integrates with SAP) to all Canadian businesses including managing the transition of routine tasks to shared services including process design and internal controls.
Under the supervison of the Indirect Tax Manager, the Indirect Tax Consultant (Candidate) assists with the analysis of business patterns and identifies indirect tax issues, researches legislation and recommends technical tax solutions meeting tax as well as BU operational needs, identifies other impacts beyond tax where consultation with other functions or external advisors may be required, exercises judgement when evaluating indirect tax issues, and provides clear and understandable recommendations to BU employees and the Indirect Tax Manager.
Candidate has working knowledge of SAP data, processes and user roles as they impact indirect tax determination by OneSource. Candiate will assist with the deployment of OneSource to BU’s including detailed tax requirement identification and process mapping, testing, and monitoring deployed businesses. Candidate will support indirect tax activities performed by shared services or BU’s (legacy).
Candidate assists in responding to external indirect tax audits requests including coordination and sourcing of financial and transactional data, working with RIM on data retention requirements, and coordinating Global IT and BU data archiving.
Candidate identifies data and process deficiencies, analyzes audit findings, and coordinates efforts to remediate deficiencies. Candidate assists with the preparation of requests for binding rulings from tax authorities.
Candidate assists in the provision of indirect tax learning resources to BU’s and Functions, including creation and delivery of SAP Job Aids, SOP’s, tax training seminars and coordination of external training, and communication of Tax policies and procedures.

25% Conducts research for indirect tax issues and develops recommendations
25% Assists with the SAP and OneSource deployment strategy including requirements, process design, training aids, testing, implementation and monitoring/block resolution
20% Assists with development and communication of indirect tax policies and procedures, compliance and planning initiatives
15% Responds to external indirect tax audits requests including data requirements
10% Provides indirect tax training and support for BU’s and Functions including shared services
5% Administrative and other duties as assigned
University Degree - Accounting, Finance or similar discipline
Professional Accounting designation CPA
3 years public accounting practice including specializing in taxation and/or relevant industry tax experience
Knowledge of domestic indirect taxation including basic tax research and compliance skills
Strong data and process analytical skills to provide insight and recommend improvements/efficiencies
Willingness to learn and develop skills and keep technical skills current
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and balance competing priorities
Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada
Completion of CICA In-depth GST Tax Course or willingness to complete within a year
5 years of post university work experience with at least 3 years as an indirect tax specialist in a public accounting practice and/or relevant industry tax experience.
Work experience in a complex taxation environment (global multi-national or public company).
SAP and OneSource direct user experience
Working knowledge and understanding of Canadian domestic indirect taxation
Experience with the tax authorities at both the audit level and the appeals level would be considered an asset
